Pride

In Denmark we have this belief that one should be humble all the time and never gloat. While for some this argument might be valid as the world does not revolve around that one person, but at the same time it can hurt our confidence because we don’t believe what we do matters. It’s important to be humble, no doubt about that. At the same time it’s important to take a step back and acknowledge the success that one has had and be proud of it.

Sometimes I’m proud of myself
and that’s okay to feel
underneath the layers I kneel
and respect my accomplishments

It’s not about being cocky
especially if you’re only the understudy
Pride based on hard work should be your buddy
it deserves some attention

We’re used to the societal pressure
telling us to kill our excitement
our pride is not broken but always bent
Greatness shouldn’t be a taboo

Critiquing others is easy
instead of thinking inside
or saying they did something bright
when you feel helpless

The opposite end is not the goal either
arrogance equals ignorance too
Neither solutions are optimal to show what’s true
the middle ground is for us all
